THX, a company specializing in new technology of sound and founded by George Lucas, has filed a complaint against Apple in the District Court of California, arguing that iPhone, iPad and iMac violate a patent concerning the diffusion of sound through speaker.
According to the complaint, Apple would knowingly infringed a patent belonging to the THX and relative to the speaker configuration on various devices. This patent dates back to 2008, and describes a number of methods to improve the quality of the sound emitted from the speaker integrated into the electronic devices.
THX considers the infringement by Apple caused monetary damages and d 8217; # & irreparable image, so now requires compensation for revenue losses derived from 8217; # & misuse of this technology.
This patent would have been used by Apple from 8217; # & iPhone 4S, from 8217; # & iPad 3 g and the new iMac. In fact, glancing at the patented technology from THX, there seems to be some correlation with the configurations used in Apple products, particularly in the new iMac.
For his part, however, Apple also owns a wide range of patents related to its own speaker and related specifically to iPhone and iPad, despite having been filed only after the THX.
The lawsuit between THX and Apple should begin on May 14.
