iPhone stolen and replaced at the Apple Store: easier than expected

In this article we present the testimony of a person who was a victim of his theft of her iPhone 5. In addition to the damage, however, our user also had the mockery: from his statements, it seems that it is relatively easy for a thief to recycle an iPhone facendoselo replace stolen directly from Apple.

iPhone-Thief

Here is the story told from our user: walking through Naples unfortunately I run into a mugger who extorts me with a knife on my phone, in particular we are talking about an iPhone 5. Saddened and scared at the same time, I would reco at l # 8217; & Carabinieri Office closest to you and I will work to carry out adequate complaint to attach the documentation to be sent to my operator, Vodafone, through which I could lock the phone and its SIM card.

After 2 months, entering my Apple account, shows that my iPhone has disappeared among the devices in my possession. Making a quick phone call all & # 8217;Apple Care service (Apple assistance) I am being told that my phone was replaced with a new one, and the one who performed this service operation is protected by privacy rules. I reco deadlock from kick-off at the # & 8217;Apple Store of Commercial Center of Campania (8217; # & lt only store in all of Campania), where I would like to discuss the issue with a Manager, which makes me know that they do not control the properties of the phones, because they can't do it because I'm not a & # 8217; judicial authority. At that point my question becomes a & # 8217; other: # & 8220;How did you manage to replace a resulting phone stolen 8221; # &.

With the utmost calm the head keeps telling myself that they are not a 8217; # & authority and cannot access customer data, although I was a contract with Vodafone (which contains the code of the phone they sent assistance) and the denunciation of the Carabinieri, which showed that I was the customer of that productand not the person who the 8217; # & brought in for repairs. To my further question, & # 8220;So if I rubassi an iPhone and I'll bring here I could have another free & # 8221; and sentitomi answer # & 8220; the owner of the phone is the one who holds & # 8221; even more deadlock from kick-off, I decide to write an email to Tim Cook explaining each step of what happened.

In less than 24 hours I get a phone call from his Office in the u.s., directly from an Italian employee (of which we omit the name deliberately, ndr) which tells me: 8220 & #;I'm calling for the email sent to Tim Cook, sorry for 8217; # & happened, are things that Captain. & #; 8221 The conclusion that I have drawn, unfortunately, is that this sort of # & 8220; # & 8221 recycling; of stolen Apple products exists and has been confirmed by Apple itself.

Similar stories were also told us in the last few months, but for the first time a user went up the bottom asking clarification to Headquarters. Apple has partly confirmed that a thief can do replace an iPhone without much difficulty, given that employees of Apple Store can't for privacy issues check if that device actually belongs to that particular person. But we know also of cases where Apple employees were more careful in dealing with similar issues. In short, this situation however paradoxical that though concerns not only Apple, but also many other companies operating in the market for telephony. However, would create a database of stolen phones: before replacing it makes a check, and if the Terminal is blocked as a result of a complaint for theft, then the replacement is blocked and the alleged owner must justify the possession of the device.
